embodied voice

Vocal training and exploration - integrating intention, breath, imagination and Movement

Embodied Voice....
I offer a unique approach  for beginners to experienced singers who are seeking to explore the full expressive potential of their voice.
Each person I work with brings their own  blend of interests, learning style and resources, and a precious and unique voice. I am particularly passionate about teaching in a way  that is practical, empowering and inspiring.
I draw on my intensive training as a teacher of the Alexander Technique - used world wide as an approach to  refining our kinaesthetic intelligence as we move/sound/ think.

Embodied Rhythm....
I offer regular group workshops in  TaKeTiNa - a cutting edge approach to rhythm education.  developed through over 40 years by world renowned rhythm researcher - Reinhard Flatischler.

  •  Individual Voice Sessions
I offer a unique approach  for beginners to experienced singers who are seeking to explore the full potential of their voice. I teach individual lessons in Preston.
These sessions can be tailored to the specific needs and interests of the individual.
Lessons can cover:
  • vocal training for singers or speakers. : developing  resonance, power, subtlety and connection to your own unique voice..
  • transforming vocal/ movement/breath issues
  • developing performance skills
  • rhythm for singers : embodied rhythm practices to build confidence and improvisation skills.
  • Small group classes
A combination of both individual and small group learning provides an ideal  environment for exploring the full potential of  our own speaking/singing voice, and build confidence in sharing our voice with an audience.  I regularly offer small groups (6 or less participants) in Preston.

  • What is Unique about MY Approach?
Every individual has their own particular way of learning and a unique  voice.
I enjoy shaping lessons and classes to meet each person.
Over the years, I have pursued an intensive study of the interconnection of movement/imagination/ intention through my study of voice, co-ordination and rhythm. As a singer I was drawn to find practical and accessible ways to meet the emotional and physical challenge of a performance situation.

Ria's skills as a group facilitator have been deeply enriched by her long term training in the Taketina rhythm process - a cutting edge method of rhythm education. She is qualified to facilitate workshops after completing her basic training with Reinhardt Flatischler - master teacher and founder of the work.

I am passionate about sharing my longterm exploration of  rhythmic voice. As a vocalist, I have always been fascinated by different approaches to developing  rhythmic improvisation. For many singers, developing a strong sense of rhythm is often a neglected skill.

' Your approach is gentle and confident and confidence-inspiring and incredibly knowledgeable.
I have learned that there is a lot more to singing than I first thought, but it is possible to improve quickly and that I actually have a nice singing voice!
